The Truth Behind My Trip to the United Nations

May 1, 2019

I’ve always had this sneaky little interest in government. It’s not a full blown passion or anything. I’ve just always been… curious. Like, in the back of my mind I feel like in a few decades I will be living and working in D.C. It’s hard for me to explain these feelings because I don’t really understand them. It’s something so different from what I make a living doing right now. Did you know my grandma was the mayor of her city in Arkansas for two terms? Truthfully, I’m interested and not closed off to the idea of politics being a part of my life later down the line.

So last week, I decided very randomly and quite out of the blue that I wanted to go to the United Nations. And it turns out that I had a friend that wanted to come with me. Minutes later we booked our tickets and that was that!

There were a couple things that really stuck with me as I was leaving the U.N. headquarters:

1 ) The purpose of the United Nations is to not bring heaven down to Earth, but instead keep Earth from going to Hell.

2 ) The super objective of the United Nations appears to be peace.

How interesting is that? They know that not everyone is going to see eye to eye and get along. But as long as the whole world doesn’t collapse over night, they’re doing their job. But the whole goal is for everyone to live peacefully. I LOVE that. I saw that word a lot all over the building. PEACE.

PEACE.

How nice would it be if we actually all lived in peace? If everyone lived harmoniously with one another? This is the most pageant-y thing you’ll ever hear me say, but truly: All I want is world peace.

Here’s a fun video recap of my experience with my friend and colleague, Gabrielle Elisabeth the day after we visited the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

Peace and blessings y'all.
